Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning
our song shall rise to thee
There is a sign at the sight of thee
Merciful and mighty
God in three Persons,
God in three Persons,
Blessed Trinity

Holy, holy, holy!
Though the darkness hide thee,
Though the eye of sinful man
Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy;
There is none beside thee,
Perfect in power
Perfect in power
In love, and purity

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy Name, in
Earth, and sky, and sea
There is a sign at the sight of thee,
There is none beside thee,
God in three Persons,
God in three Persons,
God in three Persons,
God in three Persons,
Blessed Trinity

John 1:12-14

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Ephesians 1:3-10

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

There are two families in the Christmas story. An earthly family of Mary, Joseph & Elizabeth and a heavenly family of Father, Son and Spirit. Our earthly families are often marked by divorce, dysfunction and emotional mess. We may be aware of this most of all at Christmas. All our imperfections making for dissonant relationships that get amplified during the holidays. Here it helps to remember that our deepest belonging is not to our relatives. We have now been adopted into the heavenly family. Invited to share the perfect relationship of the Trinity. The love of the Father, the faithfulness of the Son and the abundance of the Spirit.
