For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice,
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”
Our familiarity with the Christmas story can make us indifferent to some of the details. Consider the story of the Shepherds. It begins with a run of the mill(!) angelic message before the scene is invaded with the multitude of an angel choir. Then they get to hear a verse of heaven’s eternal song. What a spectacle! We can see here that heavenly worship is always waiting to break through. The reality of divine exaltation is ready to burst into the reality of this world. There is always worship around the throne of Jesus. The question is who will join it? Who will open their heart today and partake in the angel’s song?
HOLY SPIRIT open our eyes to see Your wonder! Open our ears to hear Your voice! Open our mouths to sing Your praise!
