A People of Peace: Once And For All

Once and for all, the Father’s love
He is the light in the darkness
He took on flesh and took our place
The weight of the world on His shoulders
The weight of the world on His shoulders

We believe our God is Jesus
We believe that He is Lord
We believe that He has saved us
From sin and death once and for all

Once and for all, our debt is paid,
There on the cross it is finished!
The Lamb of God for us was slain
Up from the grave He is risen,
Up from the grave He is risen!

Jesus, Jesus, God from God, Light from light, You are our Salvation
Jesus, Jesus, God from God, Light from light, Your kingdom is forever

Psalm 36:5-9

Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens,
    your faithfulness to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;
    your judgments are like the great deep;
    man and beast you save, O Lord.
How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
    The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
    and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
    in your light do we see light.

James 1:16-18

Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

We are often in the habit of telling God what is good. Enlightening Him to what we think will be good for ourselves or for the country. We like to sit around and solve the world’s problems. Yet what do we really know and how do we know it? Everything we know that is good, true or meaningful we only discovered because God revealed it to us. C.S. Lewis once wrote, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen. Not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” He is light from light. There is no shadow or variation or turning with Him. He is the definition of truth. His mercy is unchanging and His love is secure.
